This (like probably the majority of ancient archaeological sites in the country) is not one to visit if you're expecting to look at spectacular remains. The old cairn is barely visible as a turfed-over spread of stones on the line of a dry stane dyke, and a small more modern pile of stones merges into the top of it.
I parked up where the Gryffe Valley Way turns off the Old Largs Road then slogged across a bleak and boggy and largely featureless Darndaff Moor, which rewarded me with wet feet and midgie bites but also endless song from skylarks and panoramic views.
Canmore reports that the cairn is 11m by 14m in size and about 1.3m high at the centre. I'm impressed that they could be so specific.
