Machrie Moor, on the west side of Arran, is soaked through with archaeology going back 5,500 years.
A very obvious feature of the moor is the group of six stone circles set very close together.
Circle 1 is a ring of six granite boulders and five sandstone slabs set alternately. (If there was a sixth sandstone slab, it is long gone.)
