Bannockburn, Stirling
Cup and Ring Carvings

A few miles southeast of Stirling, on an area of higher ground above the River Forth, are a series of rocky outcrops with a number of cup and ring markings ranging from simple cups to cups surrounded by up to four concentric rings.

There are at least 8 carved outcrops here - I found four, and some of the rest have been turfed over to protect them. Some of the carvings are faint and some are still very clear. They are impossible to date, but are generally thought to be Bronze Age or possibly late Neolithic. That is, dating back to some time between three thousand and five thousand years ago.
